Islay is part of the southern Hebrides and is also called Queen of the Hebrides. In addition to the 10 working whisky distilleries, the breathtaking scenery and the amazing wildlife make the island a visit worthwhile.
The people are friendly and the time passes a wee slower then in other places in the world.
And remember, the rain of today is the whisky of tomorrow.
Public bus
The route 450 runs from Bowmore in the centre of the island via Bruichladdich to Portnahaven in the south-west corner.
The route 451 runs between Port Askaig in the north-east via Bowmore down to Port Ellen and Ardbeg in the south.
Taxis
There are several taxis on Islay. It is always a good idea to book a taxi in advance to avoid long waits. Some taxi companies also offer half- or full-day hire as well as whisky tours.
